This recipe is an updated version to my Super Strength Skeeter Spray! I modified it because as I’ve learned more about essential oils, I realized that I was using several blends in my spray recipe which is a LOT of different oils all mixed together. The more oils you use, the less effective they can be because they are all muddled together. This recipe is equally effective to use when you’re outdoors but more potent since there are fewer essential oils in it! I love this outdoor spray because the ingredients are natural and safe for my entire family. We use it almost daily in the Spring and Summer. It smells yummy, too!
This Is All You Need!
How I Made My Spray:
I filled my spray bottle 1/5 of the way with fractionated coconut oil. I’ve never added this to any of my previous outdoor sprays, but my thought behind this was that the oil would help the spray stick to our skin longer than a regular spray would! Then I filled my container 3/5 of the way with witch hazel and the rest of the way with distilled water. I left a little room at the top for essential oils and also to add the nozzle back in without it overflowing. Then I added 5 drops each of Cinnamon, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Citronella, and Lavender. I gave it a good shake and then it was ready to go!
To Be Noted:
If you are using this recipe on children, it may be helpful to try it out on your own skin first. Cinnamon and Peppermint are both considered to be “hot” oils and can irritate sensitive skin. Be careful to avoid spraying anywhere near the eyes, please! For a milder version you could try adding 3-5 drops each of Lavender, Lemongrass, and Citronella.
